Next row (WS): Knit
Begin with a knit row, work 2 rows st st.
Now work rows 1-8 inclusive of chart C, using Fair isle method and rep the 8 sts 7 times along row, to form primrose border.
Work second piece in same way, following chart A for 24 rows, again using intarsia method for badger and separate balls of yarn for bluebells either side.

Row 2: K1 (loop 1 to last st) k1.
Row 31: Marking either end of this row with contrasting yarn, p1 (p2tog, 5 times) p20 (p2tog, 5 times) p1 (32sts).
Row 42: This will be decreasing and casting off at the same time. P2tog twice. Pass first loop over second, *p2tog, pass prev st over, repeat from * to end.
Front head
Row 7: P5, purl twice into next st (for selvedge). Put these 7 sts on to a safety pin. (They will later be used to knit the RH side of the face.) Cast off 30 sts p-wise (should leave 1 st on RH needle and 5 sts on LH needle). Purl twice into next st, purl to end (7 sts on needle).
Row 23: Inc 1 st, purl to end of row (8 sts).
Row 25: Cast on 2 sts, purl to end of row (10 sts).
Row 27: As row 25 (12 sts).
Row 29: Cast on 4 sts, purl to end of row (16 sts).
Row 31: P1 (p2tog, 5 times) p5, cast on 10 sts and then cont across the 16 sts for the RH side left on a stitch holder, p5 (p2tog, 5 times) p1. You should now have 32 sts on the needle and the 2 sides of the face should be joined.
Face
Rows 1–15: Starting with a purl row, work 15 rows in st st.
Row 16: K2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog, marking the 18th stitch with contrasting yarn to guide the positioning of the nose (34 sts).
Eyes
These are worked from the top down. With A and 4.5mm needles cast on 5 sts.
Row 2: Inc 1 st at both ends (7 sts).
Row 4: With RS (k side) of work facing, inc 1 st at beg of row (8 sts).
Row 7: Dec 1 st at beg of row, purl (9 sts).
Row 8: Knit, dec 1 st at end of row (8 sts).
Row 9: Purl, dec 1 st at both ends (6 sts).
Row 10: Knit to last 2 sts, k2tog (4 sts).
Ears
Row 3: Inc 1 st at each end, knit (8 sts).
Rep the last 2 rows twice more (12 sts).
Rows 12–16: Cont in st st, dec 1 st at each end of every row (2 sts).
Lining
Row 29: K1 (k2tog, 6 times) k24, (k2tog, 6 timesk1 (38 sts).
