Step 2 Draw around the tin lid again. Make yourself a rectangular template 1in (2.5cm) larger all the way around and use it as a pattern to cut out the pad fabric. Stitch 3/8in (1cm) in from the fabric’s raw edge. If using a sewing machine, use your longest stitch and extra-thick bobbin thread. If hand stitching, make 1/4in (6mm) long running stitches and use your thread doubled.

Desk lamp
Page 54 – Step 6
Start assembling the arm of the lamp. Lay out the relevant elements in order in front of you from left to right thus: F – J – F – C – I – C – F – A– H – D. Lay the cable down in front of you with the fabric-covered part of cable to your left and the uncovered wires to your right. Starting from the left , undo the first elbow/gas tap joint (F) and put the top half (the half with the screw hole) to one side. Feed all three wires through the back piece, ensuring the earth (green and yellow) wire lies around one side of the screw pin and the neutral (blue) and live (brown) pass around the other side.
Page 56 – Step 8
Continue assembling the lamp arm by screwing on each element, working from left to right until the third elbow/gas tap joint (F) and the 3/8 x 1/2in (10 x 13mm) thread (H) are attached. Using wire cutters and strippers, trim the ends of the three wires and attach the lamp holder (D) following the manufacturer’s instructions – make sure the lamp holder is firmly earthed at this point – this varies depending on the lamp holder, so do have it checked by a qualified electrician.
Step 11
Fix the lamp arm to the lamp base. Lay out the elements in order in front of you from left to right thus: – G – G. Lay your work out in front of you with the assembled arm and shade on the right and the covered cable to your left . Working from right to left , thread a washer (G) along the cable. Now thread the cable through the hole on the top of the base tin to the inside. Thread the next washer (G) onto the cable, and then a chrome reducer (A). Working inside the tin, screw the nut next to the washer tightly against the tin, using pliers to achieve a snug fit.

(makes one bracelet approximately 8 1/2in (22 cm) in circumference, using ring-pulls roughly 5/8in (15mm) in width and 1in (2.5cm) in length, although you can make this project any size you like)
